Neurotoxins

  • A neurotoxin is technically a toxin that is destructive to nerve tissue. This sounds scary! But scientists have been using neurotoxins for years to treat diseases. Recently, neurotoxin injections have become one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Certified injectors use extremely small amounts to relax muscles in the face and other areas of the body. By relaxing the muscles, you are preventing wrinkles from forming.

  • Great question! The answer is unfortunately different for everyone. For most people, a treatment starts to work in 3-7 days, and lasts 3-6 months. I believe metabolism plays a huge role in this. If you have an extremely fast metabolism, or work out a lot, chances are you will probably be toward the 3 month mark. Age and gender also play a role. Amount injected also plays a role. Studies show, the more product injected, the longer it will last. With this being said, most clients want more of a natural feel, so more is not always more when it comes to neurotoxins.

  • Side effects associated with the injection include: localized pain, infection, inflammation, tenderness, swelling redness, and/or bleeding/bruising.

Less common reactions may include: nausea, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, headache, excessive weakness of the muscle, temporary eyelid drooping, temporary brow drooping.

CALL THE OFFICE IF YOU EXPERIENCE: shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, difficulty talking, severe lower eyelid droop, obstructed vision, excessive weakness around the injection site, rash or a sign of an allergic reaction.

  • Application of an ice pack to the injection area after treatment may help reduce swelling.  If swelling persists please contact our office.

Do not rub or massage the treated area.

Avoid strenuous exercise or activity for the remainder of 24 hours.  You may resume other normal activities/routines immediately.

You may begin wearing makeup once any pinpoint bleeding from the injection site/s has subsided.

Avoid drinking alcohol for a minimum of 12 hours as this may contribute to bruising and/or swelling.

Avoid extended UV exposure until any redness/swelling has subsided. Be sure to apply an SPF 30.

We recommend you wait a minimum of 1 week before receiving any skincare or laser treatments.

  • Dermal fillers and neurotoxins are almost the exact opposite things. Dermal fillers act as a substitute. Anywhere you have depletion in your face, you can ADD filler. Think of filler as a tool to contour your face. Neurotoxins RELAX your face. You would not want to put a neurotoxin in your cheeks for example, because they would droop. Cheeks are a great place to put filler to contour and make them pop! Neurotoxins take a few days to kick in and final results are seen 2 weeks from injection day. Filler results can be seen right away.

  • YES! It is perfectly safe to get both neurotoxin and filler injections on the same day.

  • This varies person to person. I prefer to use neurotoxins as a preventive treatment along with a good skincare routine. It’s a good time to start when you begin to see lines on your face when you are NOT making expressions. It is even better to start BEFORE you see any permanent lines. This could be in your 20’s or even 30’s. It is never too early to prevent aging!

  • First, we draw a small blood sample. The needle is super small so do not worry! Then, we place the tube in a centrifuge and spin it for about 8 minutes. When we take the tube out, we can see the “liquid gold” separated from other parts of the blood. We then take this “liquid gold”, and use it for injections.

  • An average PRP appointment takes about an hour which includes numbing the area, spinning the blood, and then injecting.

  • For optimal results, 3-4 PRP treatments will be needed, 4 weeks apart. Some people see changes within the first week after initial treatment, but for most people, significant changes come at 3-4 weeks. The benefits of PRP will continue to improve until peak results hit at about 3 months.

  • The chances of having bruising after PRP is high due to injections with needles. Under-eye also tends to bruise as this is a sensitive area. Swelling may also occur for a day. Please take this into consideration when booking appointments.

  • There is no downtime after PRP injections, but please note you may be bruised or swollen after.

Dermal Fillers

  • There are many different kinds of dermal fillers. Some are made out of hyaluronic acid, some are made out of calcium. Unlike neurotoxins, the ingredients can be found naturally in your body. HA fillers are great because they attract water to your tissues, giving you that plump, young look. Some places you can put filler include cheeks, marionette lines (frown lines), nasolabial folds (laugh lines), and lips.

  • HA fillers tend to last 8-12 months. Please note, everyone metabolizes filler differently.
